Lishi Deng (UGent) visits group of Prof. Alan Hubbard (UCB)

In spring 2024, Lishi Deng - PhD researcher at UGent - spent a couple of weeks at UC Berkeley for short training, group meetings, data analysis etc in the framework of her research on Breastmilk composition, gut microbiome, and the effect on infant growth. Coming from the UGent group with Prof. Carl Lachat and Dr. Trenton Dailey-Chwalibóg, she was welcomed in the group of Prof. Alan Hubbard and Dr. Andrew Mertens.

Read here about her experience:

"My time at UC Berkeley was incredibly enriching. Working with leading experts in the field of causal inference and public health epidemiology was a pivotal experience. My colleagues were exceptionally approachable, always willing to offer their time and insights into my research. Their guidance was instrumental in helping me navigate the complexities of my data, and enhanced my skills in ways that will undoubtedly benefit my future work. The Berkeley campus, with its new and beautifully designed facilities, provided an inspiring environment that made long hours of research both productive and enjoyable. Outside the lab, I found immense joy in exploring the charm of Berkeley and the wider Bay Area. The natural beauty of the region captivated me, with hikes in the nearby Berkeley Hills and trips to the beach offering a refreshing contrast to the intensive research work.

Overall, the exchange sharpened my expertise and opened doors for exciting future collaborations. It’s an experience I’ll always value."
